Yandina Station Wedding – Ryana + Simon

Yandina Station Wedding

There really is nothing sweeter as a wedding photographer than going deep undercover.  Having your clients so relaxed that they let themselves go, be in the moment and forget you are there.  Some people might think that is strange.  Why would you want people to forget you are there?  Wouldn’t it mean that you don’t get great photographs?  On the contrary (and a trap for young players) the photographs that are THE BEST, are the ones where real stuff is happening!  Not posed, not staged, not fake.  THE REAL DEAL.  If we were surfers we would probably call that state, The Stoke.  (The Stoke – for anyone who doesn’t surf – is that first time elation you get when you ride your first wave. Apparently it is better than , well everything, and surfers spend their life chasing that high.) So I guess you could say us photographers are chasing The Stoke on each and every wedding.  You know what I am talking about and it is reason why most people hate having their photograph taken, and hate the photographs of themselves as well.  You know the drill, family gathering, dad brings out the camera and tells everyone to smile, while he adjusts the settings for what seems like half an hour, and then gets you to smile again, SMILE!!! and then – click – the world’s worst photograph.  What you have is that fake smile with a little bit of boredom and a tinge of please-get-this-over-with frustration and annoyance.  Now that’s a face you want in a photograph – NOT!  This is the reason why candid photographs are better, you are wearing your real face, your real smile, your real laughter, your real love.  And this love, the love between Ryana and Simon, oh-my-word-yes, this love is the realest of real loves.

White + White Wedding

White + White Wedding Nerilee and Michael

We are deep in the process of a rebrand here at Studio Sixty. I love me a good rebrand but with it comes the more, um, difficult stuff about who we are and what we stand for. For a long time I thought that would be clear, because when you meet us, you can get a real sense of the type of people we are. However now in the digital age, you guys spend more time looking at our website, Instagram and Facebook page, rather than talking to us face to face. And with that comes a real need to be clear through all of those platforms about the people we are and clients we want. With so many photographers around, and with new ones joining the ranks everyday, what, you ask, makes us different? After some serious soul searching I think I have an answer. We are honest. What you see is what you get – we don’t outsource any of our work, our work is our own. No one else will touch your files but Jason or myself. A photographer’s tools of his trade are the way he captures an image, and what he then does to process it. Your photographs are 100% by Jason’s hand, as it should be. The real thing is always the real thing. We are professional. That means when you call, email, message or Skype we get back to you that day. We answer our phones, we respond to your emails, we listen to your questions. We have been in business for 22 years and, given it is our business and we do nothing else, we offer the best customer service possible. We do what we say – and while it may not be cool, when you are pressed for time and you need an answer, that sometimes can totally make your day! We are informed. We listen to our clients when they say that they want natural, candid images that reflect them and their story. We strive to achieve that on every wedding. Candid photography is hard, it requires knowledge, experience and skill to be able to be in the right place at the right time. To seize the moment, and sometimes, as if by magic, to make that moment happen. To make sure we know how to keep getting better, we keep staying informed. Better service, better product, happy client. We are fun. Take it from me, or ask around, we take being fun very, very seriously. You can’t mess around with fun, cause it can get away from you, any time. We work for you. One of the things I see in the industry is a desire to build a business rather than service clients. Many photographers say they shoot for themselves on a wedding day as much as they shoot for you. That their blog is about promoting themselves rather than showing your photographs to your family and friends. We don’t do that. We understand that you are the reason we are in this business so we want to do all that we can to make your experience a thoroughly enjoyable one. We want your Nan and Uncle Bob and Aunty Vera to be able to see your photographs and to show their friends. We aren’t in it for us, we are in it for you. At the end of the day, that is who we are at least on paper. If you like the sound of this then why not meet us in person? We don’t bite, except if we are having too much fun. As I said, it can get away from you, that fun…

What does all of this have to do with Nerilee and Michael?  These photographs show what true candid coverage can look like.  Real love, real emotion, real laughter.  Brimming to, and well over, real really real.
