A Man and His Shoes

March 14th, 2011

You don’t have to walk in a man’s shoes to know where he’s been.  All you have to do is buy him a new pair to get him where he is going.” Colleen McCulloch

2011 has been one crazy, unsettling, sad year so far.  At the end of last year Jason and I talked about where we wanted our business to go and how we were going to get there.  But ever since, we have been knocked down by natural disasters, illness, global grief – it seems we are trying to move forward but can’t seem to take the necessary steps.  Being a photographer you are constantly evaluating and reevaluating what you have done and where you’d like to go.  It is a pretty fickle, trendy business and it can be hard to remain true to your creative identity and feel proud about what you produce while everyone around you is clamouring for the next, new shiny thing.  When I bought Jason this new pair of shoes I didn’t really think anything of it but now I guess I was making a symbolic gesture that, after all that has already happened this year, we are finally ready to get going. Go Team!

ps The photo is taken by me – it will probably be the one and only photo of Jason that ends up on this blog and you have NO IDEA how hard it was to get him to let me post this.

Top Hat and Tails

March 2nd, 2011

It seems to be a trend that grooms are going for the french cuff shirt and cufflinks on their wedding day.  It does indeed, add an certain sense of occasion to the day and offers the boys one of the few opportunities to customise their outfits.  (I mean really how many different ways can you wear a dark suit???)  Problem is, when we were looking for cufflinks for Jason’s shirt for our wedding day the ones available were all either (shall I say) gimmicky or very, very expensive.  There just weren’t enough options on offer.  Recently during one of my etsy trawls (how I LOVE etsy – swoon) I found some cufflinks which comfortably straddle both manly and sweet.  They are made of wood and porcelain and can be customised with your initials.  They come in a range of sizes depending on how big a statement you want to make.  They are made by Paloma’s Nest (who you have probably heard of either here or because they make the most beautiful ring bearer bowls around) and now all we need to do – given that the boys are lifting their game what with these suits and cufflinks and what – is get the boys back in top hat and tails.  Are you with me? Or are you with me? (Just as long as we don’t have to go back to wearing corsets! Ye gads no!)
