Day to Night

July 8th, 2010

It seems to be a recent trend that Brides want to accessorise their gowns for the reception – you know, add something a little bit different to take them from the serious ceremony to the more relaxed reception.  It is also a way of bringing in a little unexpected colour to their dress to herald that now is the time to have some fun!  My girlfriend Wilhelmina added a lovely sash to her wedding dress, a recent bride Clare wore a new headpiece in place of her veil and another bride Shikira changed her shoes for the reception.  In keeping with this trend I found this great site Emerson Made which makes wonderful sashes, corsages and shoe accessories and would be an easy and inexpensive way to take your outfit from day to night.

These fabric dahlias can be attached to your shoes – and are made in a variety of colours to match your bridesmaids dresses. (I’m thinking about getting a pair too!)

What about a beautiful flower wrist corsage – it gives your arms a rest from carrying your bouquet and allows for waving your hands in the air and breakdancing – if it is that kind of reception…

My personal favourite is the rose sash – not only is it gorgeous but you will be able to wear it again and again. Either around your waist, in your hair, or on a clutch or jacket.

You Are My Sunshine

June 29th, 2010

It is just freezing today (I know, I know, it is Queensland but remember none of us have central heating!) and I have been sitting here in my puffa jacket looking at the new Spring/Summer 2010 collection for Metalicus as my way of conjuring up the sun.  I love this brand – they are made really well, last forever and allow you to layer without making you feel like the Michelin man and each collection goes with the last so every piece is a long-term addition to your wardrobe. I have been really excited to see what colours they will be putting together for Spring/Summer 2010 (having had a past with colour discord a good decade ago – I am not afraid of colour) and I wasn’t disappointed.  I hope you enjoy!  Mind you, the idea of bare arms and legs right now seems downright frightening – spray tan anyone?
