I Love My Town

March 21st, 2011

Well what can I say?  Thanks just doesn’t seem to be cutting it anymore – you guys, you guys ROCK!  I can’t believe how many people came out and handed over their hard earned cash to support our community and to show they haven’t forgotten our flood victims.  Thank you – from the very bottom of our hearts.  I think we can all officially call Treading Water a success – there was great music, loads of laughter, amazing raffle prizes (except I didn’t win anything, I’m just saying…), tasty food and lots and lots of people.  I haven’t had a chance to find out how much was raised but I saw many, many people buying raffle tickets so I expect we did pretty well.  Jason and I had a blast – I can’t tell you how long it has been since I took in a band or two on a school night.  At the front table when you walked in, we set up a slide show of some of the images Jason took of the flood.  It seems so strange now – when we walk down the road now to grab a bite or a video or supplies – that, only a few weeks ago, it totally under water.  It gives you a little bit more insight into how people are feeling in New Zealand and Japan – the devastation of having your community there one minute and in tatters the next.  Heart wrenching stuff…

So in between beers and bands, Jason ran around trying to capture the mayhem but we thought you’d all be interested in the highlights. (I’m afraid he had an early shoot in the morning (and I am OLD) so we left a bit early but I’m sure the place was jumping until the wee hours of the morning.)

I ended up buying Silent Feature Era‘s latest CD at the event – on the strength of their first song…I’m sure we will be hearing from these guys in the future.  Also if you are looking for a venue for your wedding or engagement party the Lightspace in Fortitude Valley is just fabulous – I love everything about the venue and the decor is ultra industrial and chic.  I’m thinking about having a party JUST so I can use the venue I love it so much!  I have added this detail shot because I want this chandelier!!!  Like BAD!

Let It Snow

March 18th, 2011

Bring on winter I say!  I know I have said it here before but I love the cooler weather.  Summer clothes just don’t suit me – I seem to overheat in the loosest of dresses so I spend most of summer bolting from one air conditioned place to another watching my makeup run and my hair frizz!  It seems that ever since I started running sweat pours out of me like a river at the slightest movement.  It is disgusting.  No, seriously – it is not a good look.  As my way of attempting to conjure up winter, I recently bought a pair of Wrist Worms by Sandra Juto.  They are lovingly hand made and, although they come in wool,  I bought the cotton/linen blend which is perfect for our very mild winters (the title of this post was a bit of a a joke – if it ever snowed in Brisbane I think we end the debate about climate change!)  I love looking at Sandra’s blog – her photos are so inspiring and I love how different her life is in the northern hemisphere – all that snow just makes me very, very jealous!

This is pretty hilarious – here I am in a singlet top with gloves on!!!

They are fingerless but there is a right and left hand…I haven’t quite figured it out yet.

I love the little calendar I received as well and the thank you card.  Such a personal touch.

welcome
